The CISC RFID Xplorer is a compact high-precision RFID test instrument. It is used to measure performance of RFID devices and application setups, verify conformance and support the development of readers, tags and ICs.

The CISC RFID Xplorer is a compact measurement product developed to be easily applied for tag frequency sensitivity, communication range and backscatter measurements with a receiver sensitivity of -90 dBm. The device operates with at least 2 W e.r.p. in the basic frequency range from 800 MHz to 1 GHz. The extended frequency range is from 600 MHz to 1.3 GHz. The measurement speed achieved can be as low as 1 second per frequency.

The new CISC RFID Xplorer, more commonly termed as Xplorer 200, has new upgraded features such as extended read and write memory tests and test support for crypto suites fully supporting EPCglobal and ISO/IEC test standards. Xplorer 200 is also developed to perform all Brazil RFID test Standards such as SINIAV, ARTESP and Brasil ID. Xplorer can be successfully used to measure both standalone tags and tags applied to products. It is also able to perform a complete analysis of multiple tags.

The CISC Semiconductor leadership in both standardization organisations ISO/IEC and GS1® EPCglobal™, as well as the more than 10 years’ experience in RFID testing ensure that the test results comply with the latest industry standards and guarantee a reliable product that can easily be used and applied by customers.

With dimensions of only 160 x 205 x 50 mm, the CISC RFID Xplorer is the smallest, professional measurement tool on the market, which allows flexibility and easy transport. Dismantling and set-up can be accomplished within minutes, saving time and guaranteeing user friendly handling.

The device is designed for open area tests and as a high-precision solution for measurements in an RF controlled environment using a portable or fixed RF test chambers. The system is supplied with software and a reference tag for self-calibration. The test equipment is controlled using a graphical user interface (GUI) with an additional application programming interface (API) for the development of user-defined test sequences within standard development environments.

Tag conformance tester

Xplorer provides a tool for compliance pretesting for Gen2 V2, SINIAV, ARTESP and Brasil_ID protocols. A set of standardized test sequences is executed to automaticaly evaluate RFID Tag Conformance showing pass/fail result and details of each test case. Reader performance tester

The CISC RFID Xplorer reader tester is based on a full configurable Tag Emulator that allows measurement of reader transmit power and the reader receiver sensitivity through variable backscatter strength. Furthermore, the Tag Emulator allows testing the reader’s behavior in dependence of timing variations like BLF (Backscatter frequency) tolerance.

The reader tester captures all reader settings and measures the reader receiver sensitivity in dependence of the transmit power in accordance to the RAIN RFID reader performance test description.

Reader/Application tester (Sniffer)

The CISC RFID Xplorer Sniffer is a tool to analyze RFID reader and tag signals. The detection and decoding of reader commands and tag responses is done in real-time. Sniffer lets the user to trigger on reader commands. It logs the communication between the reader under test and tags into a TXT file.

Complex waveform signals can be recorded and saved on the hard-drive in a stream file to make them available for further analysis both in the time and frequency domain. This includes:

  • Message parsing
  • Waveform analysis
  • Frequency spectrum
  • Link timing analysis

Sniffer delivers high precision result and premium receiver sensitivity that covers the RF band from 50 MHz to 2.2 GHz. The test instrument is easy use and can be setup within couple of seconds, which makes it convenient to carry to any test site. RFID Xplorer production antenna LabelsXplorer Tag Production Line Tester is a dedicated tool for verification and testing in fast production lines during the manufacturing process of tags. The Xplorer production line tester features an antenna with high spatial selectivity for magnetic coupling and wave propagation, which guarantees reliable verification of each single label of any form factor even with very low spacing between tag antennas on the roll. The real-time processing of the measured signals directly in the Xplorer HW guarantees the fastest possible verification and marking of faulty labels.

For integration of the antenna into the production line it needs 12-50 cm space in the assembly line. The antenna is fully controlled by the Xplorer that provides a production-API.

Besides the basic parameters backscatter power at a certain frequency and power level it also supports testing of extended functions like ISO/IEC 18000-63 / Gen2V2 read, write, and ISO/IEC 29167 crypto functions, which can be flexible combined as required.
